Ask a question in Chat

Ask Adduce a question about your project and get an answer that cites the evidence behind it, from Chat or from the Ask AI shortcut.

Chat answers from your own project — its evidence, its themes and its briefs — and shows you where each part of the answer came from. It never answers from general knowledge about your market.

Before you begin

Role: project Editor or Lead. A workspace Admin holds Lead on every project. Commenters and viewers can read a shared chat but cannot send a message.
At least one connected source that has finished a sync, so there is evidence to cite.
Chat spends your workspace's Adduce tokens. The balance sits under the composer.

Steps

Open the project and choose Chat. Pick a chat from the list on the left, or choose New chat. The empty pane suggests three questions to start from.

Type your question and send it. Adduce names each step it takes — Listed themes, Read a theme — and the answer links every quote to the theme or brief it came from. Follow a link to read the whole thing.

To ask without leaving the page you are on, choose Ask AI in the header. The sheet opens over your work on the same chats, and Open full page moves the conversation across.

For a question that needs a diagnosis rather than a lookup, switch on Investigate before you send. Adduce then tests hypotheses against the evidence and reports a verdict on each. It costs more tokens and takes longer.

Ask Adduce to save an investigation and approve the card it shows you. The result lands under Investigations as a page you can link to: the question, a confidence, the answer, the quotes behind it and every hypothesis it tested.

A saved investigation keeps its quotes, so it still reads correctly if the evidence changes later.

Nothing is written without your approval

Adduce can draft a brief, add one to the roadmap, tag evidence to a theme, change a brief's open questions and save an investigation. Every one of those pauses first: the answer stops and a card appears naming the change. Both of its buttons are named after that change rather than generically — saving an investigation offers Save investigation and Don't save, adding to the roadmap offers Add to roadmap and Don't add. Choosing the refusing one ends the turn and writes nothing.

Only the person who started the chat can answer that card. A teammate reading a shared chat sees it waiting for the owner.

Who can see a chat

A chat is private to you until you share it. The control beside the title reads Private or Shared; sharing asks you to confirm, because everyone with access to the project can then read the whole conversation, including what is already in it. Make private again reverses it.
