Add people to a project
Give a workspace member access to one project and choose what they can do in it, from reading to managing the project.
Workspace membership opens no project on its own. Adding someone to a project, with a role, is what lets them read its evidence and work in it.
Before you begin
- Role: project Lead. A workspace Admin is a lead on every project without being added to one.
- The person must already be a member of the workspace. If they are not, invite them first.
- Time: under a minute per person.
Steps
Open the project, choose Project settings, then Members. The table lists everyone on the project with their role and the day they joined.
Choose Manage access. The panel opens on one row for adding somebody — a picker, the role they will get, and Add — above the list of people already on the project. The picker offers workspace members who are not on it yet, so when everybody is already here it reads No colleagues to invite, as it does below.
If the picker offers anyone, choose a colleague, choose their role, and choose Add. They appear in the list straight away and the project shows up in their sidebar.
To change someone's role later, use the Role column on the members table. Remove takes a person off the project without touching their workspace membership; on your own row the same control reads Leave. Everyone on the project, and the role each of them holds, is also listed on the project's Pulse dashboard.
The four roles are cumulative — each one can do everything the row below it can:
| Role | What it can do |
|---|---|
| Lead | Manage members and project settings, and delete the project |
| Editor | Edit briefs and other content, manage the project's sources, and use Chat |
| Commenter | Read everything and leave comments |
| Viewer | Read everything |
If it did not work
Why does the picker say there are no colleagues to invite?
Every member of your workspace is already on this project. Invite the person to the workspace first, then come back and add them here.
Why can I not change a role or remove anyone?
You hold a role below Lead on this project. The table still shows every member and their role, but the controls that change them belong to a lead or a workspace Admin.
